Over the course of my three-year FIT internship at Student Programs Leadership & Orientation (SPLO), I had the opportunity to revamp the Student and Family Guides under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Student Life. Using InDesign, I redesigned these guides (80+ page documents that I needed to condense)over multiple years, ensuring they were engaging, accessible, and visually cohesive. Beyond the guides, I worked on a variety of design projects, including rebranding health services, creating signage for Homecoming and Family Weekend, and developing themes for the Orientation selection process. This role challenged me to think critically about branding across different mediums while keeping user experience at the forefront of my designs.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this internship was seeing my work come to life beyond the screen. From printed guides to banners, A-frames, stickers, shirts, buttons, cookies, and social media posts, I was able to witness firsthand how design translates into the physical world. Walking around campus and seeing my designs displayed was an incredible feeling—it gave me a glimpse into the real design industry and reinforced my love for creating work that informs, excites, and connects people. This experience not only strengthened my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of how impactful design can be in everyday spaces.
